Four New Student-Led Fundraising Projects Are Live on Catalyzer

Catalyzer, Northwestern’s official crowdfunding platform, has helped student organizations successfully reach their fundraising goals for projects ranging from building an off-road car to producing an on-campus musical.

This fall, four student organizations bring their causes to Catalyzer and need your support.

Here’s a peek at the latest Catalyzer projects, which aim to meet their funding goals by November 21, 2017:

  • BLAST (Ballroom, Latin and Swing Team) is a dance group that promotes diverse types of partner dancing, ranging from swing, to waltz, to salsa, and many others. The group organizes open classes to learn new styles each quarter, showcases dancers and choreographers in the annual spring show, and travels throughout the Midwest to compete. BLAST hopes to raise $5,000 to host the 2018 Northwestern Ballroom Dance Classic, a day-long competition bringing in teams from all over the Midwest.

  • Global Engagement Summit (GES), a student-run social innovation conference hosted every April at Northwestern, is seeking $5,000 to bring a keynote speaker to campus for an inspiring event open to the Northwestern community. Thanks to support from Catalyzer donors last year, GES was able to bring DeRay McKesson, an American civil rights activist, to campus for a similar event.

  • Sit & Spin Productions is a not-for-profit student theater group, committed to expanding the definition of theatre by giving artists opportunities to explore unconventional, risk-taking and site-specific works. The group hopes to raise $3,000 in order to stage Fair Game: A Chicago Spectacle, an immersive look at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair.

  • Supplies for Dreams, a Northwestern organization aiming to bridge the educational resource gap present in the Chicago Public School system, is looking to raise $2000 to fund more Kids to Campus Trips. This will allow the group to bring 160+ CPS students to campus, foster their connections with each other and the University, provide them with experiential learning opportunities through workshops led by Northwestern students and faculty, and encourage them to explore the diverse offerings the University has.

All gifts made through Catalyzer are tax deductible and 100 percent of contributions directly benefit the student projects, regardless of whether they meet their fundraising goals. Gifts also count toward We Will. The Campaign for Northwestern.
